The month of September is a significant time at Bala Mandir as it marks a period of celebration. During this month, we celebrate Founder’s Day and host a Staff Get-Together event. This time around, we had the privilege of welcoming Dr Radhakrishnan, IAS officer from the Greater Chennai Corporation, who presented service awards to our dedicated employees. A total of 11 staff members were honoured with these awards during this special occasion.

The tradition of presenting service awards began in 1996 as a way to honour employees who have completed 20, 25, or 30+ years of service, a practice we continue to this day. Each awardee receives a certificate and a silver vilakku, symbolising the recognition of their commitment and contributions.

These awards have proven to be a powerful tool for acknowledging and celebrating the hard work and dedication of our employees. They play a pivotal role in fostering a culture of appreciation and motivation, contributing to both individual and organisational success.

In 2021, our management made a thoughtful decision to extend this recognition to employees who have served for 5, 10, and 15 years, a move that was warmly received and appreciated by our staff members. Recognising our employee’s dedication through these service awards has proven to significantly boost employee engagement. Engaged employees are known to be more dedicated to their roles, more productive, and more willing to go the extra mile to help the organisation achieve its goals. Our staff get-together is a unique opportunity for employees from our five verticals to come together and connect. This event allowed individuals from different teams to interact and understand one another better. We facilitated this by forming nine teams, each comprising members from various verticals. The programme spanning 2.5 hours, kicked off with a fun game, and was followed by an engaging team activity about Bala Mandir’s values. Teams were asked to interpret the nine values of Bala Mandir in their own creative ways, including drama, dance, song, or presentations. Usually, it is the children who perform while the staff are the audience, but this event was unique, allowing the staff to showcase their talents.

The staff thoroughly enjoyed this event, and it proved to be especially delightful for new joiners, offering them a chance to have loads of fun and integrate seamlessly into the Bala Mandir family.
