This blog is about my visit to Satyamurthi School for the Science Expo on March 16, 2024. Before going to any function or programme, all of us have certain expectations. I had thought that the students would repeat the old topics and it would not be interesting. However, what I experienced at the Science Expo was totally different and made me change my mind.

I first went into the large hall which had a display of many life science concepts. I enjoy studying biology, therefore I was more interested in the projects that were shown in this room. The respiratory system, the greenhouse effect, types of ecosystems, plant and animal cells, and volcanic eruptions were all displaced by the students. My brother, Sandeep, studying in Class 8 was one of the participants and he was presenting about plant cells.

After this, I  went into a room that was filled with projects related to space. When I noticed this, I immediately thought of my school, Sankara Senior Secondary School’s Science Expo and the subject of my own Science project. We had built the Chandrayaan 3 model with our teammates and explained the apogee and perigee concepts. Our team won the second place for this project.

My project – Model of Chandrayaan 3

The third room was filled with STEM and robotics models which were all very interesting and new to me. For the first time, I saw a 3D printer that could be programmed to design a variety of things. They were demonstrating how to print a name plate in three dimensions. The students follow a website called Thinker Card to develop various materials.

I was told that the Expo would start with the Big Bang presentation but I missed it. My sister, Parimala studying in Class 8 was one of the presenters. I understood that in this presentation they explained the connection and theme of the Expo which was ‘Cosmic Connection’.

I would like to take this opportunity to contrast the science exhibitions of the Sankara and Satyamurthi Schools. Everyone at my school work on a common theme for science projects for example, ‘Application of Mathematics in Real Life’. However, Satyamurthi School students seemed to have worked on different themes. Students at Satyamurthi School focused on robots, space technology, and the unit of life, which were all different. Later I was told the school students worked on ‘How Life is Formed on  Earth’ and its evolution.

I asked the students various questions and saw every project at the Science Fair for two hours. While many of the students gave excellent answers, a few students had memorised without understanding the concepts.

This is my first attempt at writing a blog. I hope that the readers like my blog. I request the readers to leave your suggestions and comments on my blog
