The Journey of Parenting Videos – a series of interesting videos on Parenting and Child Development..

It was in 2000 when Bala Mandir was collaborating with UNICEF, that I meticulously recorded the 14 stages of child development, meant for our flip book, now known as the Red Book, intended for submission to UNICEF. While on this, I felt compelled to compose two lines on each of the 14 stages. These verses comprising all the 14 stages of childhood from Birth to 6 years were soon set to music, becoming the “theme song” of our Parenting programme. A few  Bala Mandir children were trained to sing this song during all our Parenting programmes.

Ms Maya unearthed a hidden gem within these verses and encouraged me to create full-length compositions for each stage. Soon a song for each stage and many more on pregnancy, health care and the dos and don’ts of parenting were composed. This marked the beginning of disseminating parenting messages across rural and urban areas, and even among those who couldn’t read. It quickly gained popularity, especially among the rural and less- educated populations.

The next step was the swift transformation of these audios into videos, efficiently accomplished by Sushmitha.  Given our deep involvement in the Learning Through Play Calendar, we incorporated all the visuals from the Red Book. And thus, the journey culminated in the birth of our Parenting videos.

  • I shall share the parenting videos one by one in the upcoming blogs.
  • For those who read tamil language, there are questions at the end of each video, which will set you thinking…
